I'm trying to get VISA to work on my Mac laptop so I can write some control software without disturbing the computer that's actually controlling our instruments. I installed the latest version of VISA, 5.1.2, on my machine and tried to run the VISA configuration program to check that the USB->RS232 dongle was visible. The Configuration routine never actually ran. The splash screen appeared, with the status message 'Initializing', and it stayed in that mode for something like 10 minutes before I killed the process. Repeating a few times gave the same result each time. This is on a Mac running 10.8.2.
The VISA Interactive Control application does start, but there are no available resources listed, and when I try to quit it a little window appears reading 'Resetting main.vi' which persists until I force-quit the app.
Someone on a previous thread had some luck by booting their computer using the 32 bit kernel; I tried that and got the same hanging-on-initialization behavior.

I have it running on my iMac with OS X 10.8.2. 32-bit of course. I think I had to jump through some hoops to get it running, but I do not recall what they might have been.
I use it through LabVIEW. I do not recall using the Configuration program.

Hi
The problem that you have with NI-VISA is because that version does not support Mac OS X 10.8.2, it only supports the following platforms:
• Mac OS X 10.6.x x86 and x86-641
• Mac OS X 10.7.x x86 and x86-641
You can review more information about it at the following link:

I know 10.8 isn't officially supported; my hope had been that 10.7 and 10.8 were similar enough that it could be made to work (possibly with some fiddling). I'll probably just write all of the software with the exception of the RS-232 comms on my laptop, and then plug in the last bits on the production machine (running 10.6) and do the testing during some downtime.

Did anyone confirm if 5.1.2 will work on 10.8? I'm struggling to get the Arduino LVFA demo (analog read) to work and it keeps crashing on the 5005 error. Please help!
