USB 4000 from ocean optics not recognized

Hi everyone,

I'm using the USB4000 for a university project and hadn't had any problems connecting it up to my old computers however I had to change the computer I was working with and haven't gotten the USB to correctly connect.

I was running Labview 2019 on a windows 7 machine (and it worked correctly with a windows 8 machine too), with the instrument drivers downloaded from NI themselves. Installed the correct INF file and whenever I'd connect the instrument to the computer USB4000 (loong name) would show up under devices and interfaces.

Now I switched from a windows 7 to 10 machine and I did the same procedure as before but  the instrument won't show up on NI MAX and on the device manager I'll show up with unsucessful attempt at installing drivers.

Any idea what it might be? I'll double check Friday on my old windows 7 computer to see if it still recognizes the device.

Thanks

Lu

I'm not sure that the USB4000 will work on Windows 10, you may want to contact Ocean Optics for details.

I know some of the older OO spectrometers we have needed a firmware upgrade to work in Win10.

Hey thanks for the response. I sent an email to OO but no response yet, I'll update the post as soon as I get some news. I also posted this to the Labview subreddit and it was also suggested that the problem has to do with the compatibility between the USB4000 and Windows 10.

Thanks again!

Hey I think you might have been right. OO's customer support got back to me and told me to update the device. I'll try to do so ASAP and update the situation. Let's hope this works

A word of caution- if you do update the firmware to get it to work in Win10, it may no longer work in Win7. You may want to verify with OO.

Another question to ask OO is if new drivers are needed for Win10.

I asked them that and they said it was backwards compatible. However a problem came up, the device won't connect to the computers it was working with in December, I get the same unrecognized USB device and so I can't even update the firmware.

Everything is só odd because I was using it sucessfully before coming home from christmas break, I stored it away and when I got back it won't work on new computers with Windows 10 or the old computers that it worked with. I have no idea what could have happened because it literally went from working to not without even being moved and now I got to talk to my dissertation supervisor to see what to do and who's to blame 😞 .

Thanks a lot for your help and input.
