Problems with TekVisa

The new upgrade of WaveStar from Tektronix requires their new TekVisa. Tek's installation senses the existing installation of NI-Visa so it does not install properly. Tektronix support is telling me that I must un-install NI-Visa, then install TekVisa in its place. They tell me that TekVisa will support NI's needs. In looking at the NI uninstall process, it does not appear possible to install only the NI-Visa. And if I install LabWindows/CVI altogether and then re-install it, I have a feeling that it will overwrite or corrupt TekVisa. Have you had these issues come up? Let me know what you think about the Visa conflict. I am using CVI 5.5. on Win2K.

I've also had problems with TekVisa and Ni-Visa conflicts. If I install TekVisa I can get WaveSTAR working but not LabVIEW and if vice versa if I install NI-Visa over the top (you're right about it overwriting TekVisa). I'm using LabVIEW 7.1 on XP and WIN2K. Unfortunately I've not managed to come up with a solution either.

Hi Steve and Tim,

The reason that you cannot have both TekVISA and NI-VISA on your computer is because they both contain the visa32.dll. So, you can only have one of them on your system at a time.

You can uninstall NI-VISA, but there may be programs that require NI-VISA and therefore you will need to also uninstall those. You can uninstall NI-VISA by going to Start>>Control Panel>>Add or Remove Programs>>National Instruments Software>>NI-VISA x.x, when you choose remove it will give you the list of dependent products if any.

If you need TekVISA but you are also trying to use LabVIEW, you might contact Tektronix and see if TekVISA has support for LabVIEW. Is it necessary that you have TekVISA for WaveStar? Can you use NI-VISA with WaveStar?

I hope this helps.
