Problems with GPIB-USB-HS

Hello,

I am analysing a GPIB-Device and have some Problems with the NI GPIB-USB-HS.
My device isn’t answering on the "*IDN?" query’s.

I’m also using other GPIB-Controllers without Problems: NI PCI-GPIB and few other from other manufacturers.

Only with the GPIB-USB-HS my device did not answer correct.

Both NI´s (PCI and USB-HS) Controllers are listen in "NI Measurement & Automation Explorer" both controller are working with same parameters.

All fine with other devices.

Is there a known difference between GPIB-USB-HS and GPIB-PCI that can explain my problems?

Nice regards from Germany

Stefan

Are you sure the instrument reponds to *IDN? query?

Yes, i am absolutely sure.

It responds when i use all other Controllers like NI GPIB-PCI  -  only with NI GPIB-USB-HS i have that Problems.

But on other devices, the GPIB-USB-HS works fine.

Nice regrads.

The only thing I can think of is power. The power is at the limit of the USB bus so maybe this is almost correct.

Try a slightly lower busspeed, you can select that in MAX. start with 1 usec, you will not notice a real delay because most instruments anyway are slower.

Hai ,

I have connected my laptop with signal generator using GPIB USB HS interface card .

I have installed NI 488.2 version 2.7.3. in myaptop.

After i connected to my laptop In device manager , i can able to see "National Instruments " under that "GPIB USB HS"

But in the Measurements & Explorer tab , after i gave scan for instruments , it is showing "instrument not found"

Can any one please help me ? It is very urgent . How to find the connected instument gpib address?
....

@stefanMe

Hi Stefan,

did you ever find a solution for this problem?

I'm experiencing the same with two different instruments (both of course recognized by NI-MAX), while other instruments work fine. I am using NI GPIB-USB-HS+ not just NI GPIB-USB-HS.

Wiht the instruments with no *IDN? response I cannot communicate at all, although they work fine (including correct *IDN? behaviour) when I use them with other interfaces, like e.g. direct USB access.

Hi Franz/All,

Do you get any fix for the IDN query issue.

We do have same kind of problem when working with the NI Max version, 19.5.

GPIB-USB-HS+ is used for communication with NIMax.

While using GPIB-USB-HS+, getting INTFC communication protocol is seen as different with INSTR Communication protocol in NI Max (For NI Max Software versions New and Old) as shown in the attachement.

When Querying using the INTFC communication was getting the same TimeOut error as described earlier in the post. So, we are confused whether the New GPIN-USB-HS+ have got any communication issue when used with one of the USB ports.

Please share your thoughts at the earliest to figure out this issue.

Thanks,

Kiran
