Hi Jason,
What versions of NI-VISA and NI-SERIAL are installed on your machine? Are you able to change the port configuration in the Windows Device Manager by Properties and selecting Advanced on the Port Settings tab?

Justin,
I suspect that your question was directed at me,
When I ran Max as Admin I was able to change the settings (Again, Thanks Jason),
This thread has a couple of handy links that that showed me how to interrogate the port to find out it's mode.
Alas it was 4-Wire, so all configured correctly, But Still No input.

Hi Timmar,
How are you testing the sending and receiving of data with the device? Are you communicating with another instrument? Have you tried doing a Serial Loopback Test to verify the operation of the ports?

I am testing another device.
I spent the better part of 4 hours testing cabling and hardware and found that when I replaced the 8423 card with a modern 8433/4 It worked fine, This isolated the problem to to card.
The card in question has recently returned from the field after several years without fault but admittedly was only receiving data.
My first response: The port is trashed, alas, all 4 ports behave the same.
As I type, I am wondering if there is a different Pinning or special termination required for the older series cards, My Cables are the RJ50-DB9's that come with the 8433/4.

Hi Timmar,
The port may indeed be bad. To my knowledge, those cables should not have any issues working with your 8423.

I have tested all 4 ports and none of which are working.
I have a crate of dodgey NI Hardware that I will add this card to.
Kind regards,
Tim L.

Hi,
I have faced a similar issue but I am unable to find the advanced option when I run as administrator and I am also not getting the transceiver mode options in device manager.
