Solved!
Go to solution

I replaced my dual core PC with XP SP3 by a HP QuadCORE XP SP3.

After that my NI USB 232/4 doesnt work with PPP any more.

Doing this with COM1 of the HP works.

Hi HackyJ,

I was hoping you could clarify what a PPP is, and what sort of behavior you were seeing when it wasn't working? Were you able to see the USB-232/4 ports in MAX? Were you able to run VISA test panels?

Generally downgrading a driver will not fix an issue so we are interesting in recreating this issue.

Thanks

Hi Scott-M,

PPP is the remote TCP connection you can establish over serial line.

[Start][Settings][Networking]; New connection ; [o] extended connection;[o]to other computer;[o]Guest; enter computername and comunication parameters.

in my case the connection is to a embedded linux system waiting for remote connections on a serial interface.

You then can perform ftp, scc or for instance telent; i use putty for that.

The MAX was showing all 4 interfaces of the box and tells no problems.

PPP is a service of Windows operating system, so i assume there is a compatibility issue, maybe timing because the box was running on

an older computer before and worked properly.

Best Regards

Hacky

Hi HackyJ,

Thank you so much for the additional information.  After looking into it, I found that this is a known issue in NI-Serial 3.4, and Corrective Action Request has been filed, it does seem to be contained to USB serial device, so if you have a PCI device it should work fine. If NI-Serial 3.3 is working for you I would stick with that solution for now.

Thanks again for your help,
