Labview--why I cannot detect the physical channels on the instruments I connected with PCI-GPIB DAQ board?

I installed Labview 7.1 and NI-DAQmx 7.2, Traditional NI-DAQ 7.2 onto the pc.  The PCI-GPIB/LP board is installed onto pc also.  Now I connected one HEWLETT PACKARD 34401A Multimeter and FLUKE 45 Dual Display Multimeter with the PCI-GPIB/LP board through GPIB cables.  And when I open MAX, I can see the two equipments listed under "Devices&Interfaces" as instrument0 and instrument1.  When I use DAQ Assistant Express VI and try to configure a channel as input, I cannot find any "physical channels" available for select.  I tried several instruments and the result is same: instrument is recoginzed, but cannot access it and the channels on the instruments are unavailable.  I did a quick search just now.  It seems that I need to download the specific instrument driver for each installed instrument and install it to take use of them?  Is this the cause of the problem?  Thanks~!

DAQ and the assistant is completely unrelated to a GPIB controller and instruments connected to it. DAQ refers to NI Data Acquisition boards. Download the drivers and use those or use the Instrument I/O Assistant. You can go to http://www.ni.com/devzone/idnet/ and look at the topics under "Learn" for more information and also http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/5054 and click the 'Acquiring Data and Communicating with Instruments' link.
