Hi,

I am somewhat suprised that 1.6 works in windows XP as I believe that 1.7 was the first version to have XP support. What kind of Hardware do you have? If you have a PCI-GPIB, i would suggest trying the 2.0 driver. You can find this and all version information at http://www.ni.com/support/gpib/versions.htm. You might also include what is "not working" since the information provided does not give me a very good idea of what might be going on in your system.

Hope this helps out,

Hi Aaron,
first i am Using a Dell Notebook with PCMCIA-GPIB Cards.
If i install Ni GPIB SOFTWARE Version 1.7 the selftest failed and the Event shopw following 2 Message2:
1.
The GPIB Device Class Driver service depends on the GPIB Board Class group and no member of this group started.

and 2.
he GPIB Board Class Driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The parameter is incorrect.

Maybe this is a Problem with the XP Servicepack1.
In the Past with Windows XP its was working.

But thankyou for you fast response

Hi Peter,

Have you tried using the card in another laptop? You mentioned that it had worked before, so it is not likely, but it could be the hardware. Also have you tried putting the card in a different slot? Sometimes one of the PCMCIA slots can go bad and cause problems. Finally is there any evidence that this is a resource conflict? Can you check in device manager to see if there are any conflicts that are preventing the device from starting?

Hope this helps Peter,

Dear Aaron

I am experiencing the same situation when I use PCMCIA-GPIB (NI488.2 ver 1.7) on Windows XP SP1. I am using the Samsung Notebook which has 2 PCMCIA Slots. I have failed on both slots. Unfortunately, when I changed from ver. 1.7 to ver. 1.6, I cannot use it because of the error (attempt to read the wrong memory). Is there another solution for me to use GPIB on my laptop?

Hi,

I'm running under Win XP SP2 french OS, and I just received a new  PCI-GPIB (778032-01). I need to run it under NI488.2 1.7 driver. Is it possible, because the card seems to be be correctly installed (we can see the S/N) in the driver configuration but it doesn't communicate (the las test of the " getting started" interface failed). What can I do?

many thanks

dd vwr,

There is really no reason to run this new card with an old driver. You will be able to use the latest driver for XP (2.5) the drivers are backwards compatible with older code. You said it installed properly, but what does it come as in device manager?  Also, does it show up at all in MAX?

Also note, to install over software lower than Version 2.0 on Windows 2000 or XP, you must uninstall the lower version first.

I am also getting this exact same message.  I am trying to Install NI-488.2 v1.7 for PC/104.  When I run the wizard to verify hardware, it eventually leads me to check the event viewer for a resource error.  Instead, I get these two errors:

1.  The parameter is incorrect.
2.  The GPIB Device Class Driver depends on the GPIB Board Class Group and no member of this group started.

I am running this on a EPIC-2 by VersaLogic currently running WinXP SP2.

I can't use any other drivers because 1.7 was the only one to support PC/104 and WinXP for GPIB.

Hi Aaron,

Can you describe exactly what is happening when you install the driver?  Also, did you download the driver or is it from a cd?  If it's not from the website, please download it from the NI Drivers page.

Thanks!

Meghan,

The driver seems to install just fine (no errors during installation).  Then, when I open the hardware under NI-MAX, it says that the GPIB Interfaces had issues loading.  So I open the Troubleshooting wizard, and it checks for:

  1. NI-488.2 Software Presence Verified (Passes)
  2. GPIB Hardware Presence Verified (Passes)
  3. GPIB Interfaces Sequentially Verified (Fails!)

One recommended fix for this is to look to see if resources are conflicting by looking at the Event Viewer.  I did not see anything that relates to a resource conflict, but there are two events, the ones that are stated above.

The driver I have is from the CD.  You cannot download V 1.7 from your website, in fact it just sends me in circles:
"NI-488.2 v1.7 is no longer available for download. Refer to the NI-488.2 current driver versions table for an appropriate driver for your hardware / operating system combination. If you require NI-488.2 v1.7, please visit the Legacy NI-488.2 Driver Request page."

The computer I'm using is an EPIC form factor with a PC/104 interface and we are using the NI PC/104-GPIB boards.  The system is running WinXP.
