How to get a control or indicator for an 8451 I2C Configuration Reference?

(I posted this on LavaG a week ago with no response, so I thought I'd try here...)

Topic says it. When I right click the NI 8451 vis or I2C Configuration property node, the options for creating a control, indicator, or constant are grayed out. The only way I've been able to get a Configuration Refnum as a control or indicator is to open NI's 8451 vis and copy from there.

Isn't there an easier way?

Hey Daklu,
When you get the chance, do you mind posting a couple of screenshots as to what you are referring to as well as an explanation for each? This will help to clarify the situation a little bit more as well as allow me to give you a better answer.
Thanks in advance!

Sure thing.

Config Ref 1 shows the context menu when click on the reference out terminal of an NI-845x I2C Configuration property node.  With most data types I would be able to use the context menu to create controls, constants, or indicators.  As the screenshot shows, with this data type all three of those options are unavailable.  This happens with any of the 845x vis when context-clicking the I2C Configuration terminal.

Config Ref 2 shows the block diagram from NI-845x I2C Write.vi.  It has an I2C Configuration control and indicator.  That is what I'm trying to create.  The only way I have found to do it is to copy the control from one of NI's 8451 vis.

Does this explain it better?

The expectation is that you call the SPI Create Configuration Reference.vi (or the corresponding I2C version). If you want to make a sub-VI that you can use to pass the configuraiton in and out, you will need to manually copy it like you are currently doing. This may be something that we can address in a future release of the NI-845x driver.
