How do I change the assigned COM port numbers on the PCMCIA 232/4?

Hi all,
I'm using a NI PCMCIA 232/4 serial adaptor on an IBM Thinkpad T42 running Windows XP.  The remote control software for the audio signal processor I'm trying to access is looking to communicate COM1, 2, 3 or 4. My serial ports are shown as COM6,7,8, and 9. Is there a way to change the COM port number assignment? Thanks and take care.

Hello John,
You can change them in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX), expand Serial & Parallel in the Devices and Interfaces, right click on COM5 select Rename Alias and can change it to COM1, and can do that for the remaing three ports.
Thanks and good luck with everything.
Regards
Nikhil A.

Under windows 2000 the MAX (Measurement & Automation Explorer) this only change the NI COM assignment.
When viewing from windows device manager the previos COM assignment stays the same (COM5, 6, 7 & 8).

Is there a way to change the COM assigned port viewed by windows ?
