Hanna HI 221 pH meter not responding to labview

Hi all, new to labview.

I am trying to read pH readings from a Hanna HI 221. I think I got the settings right, baud rate: 9600,Data Bits: 8, Parity: none, Stop bits: 1, Flow control: none. I tried using the VISA instrument driver setup, but couldn't get a reading. The manual,http://hannainst.com/manuals/manHI_221_223.pdf,  has the commands as: <command prefix> <command> <CR>, the command to get the pH reading is 'pH?'.

Also i tried the loopback test and i got no response. So what is the problem?

Also: is the computer suppose to recognize the meter, as in if i click device manager, should i see it say COM 1 pH meter? cause it doesn't now.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

A loop back test is surely needed.
And do you have the right cable.
Some serial instruments require a straight cable others a cross cable. Sorry determined by history.
