Hello,
I recently was given a PCI-GPIB board. It will be used to obtain data and control an old Tek scope and also control a Philips function generator. I was hoping that it would be possible to develop the software in VBA with an Excel front end.(the operating system is Windows XP). Assuming that this is possible, my question is: what libraries will I need, and where can I find them. Also, are there any tutorials or references to help me get started with this?
By the way, if the Excel solution is not possible my next best alternative would be Visual C++ (2005 or 2008). Again assuming that this is possible what libraries will I need, where can I find them and are there any reference materials or tutorials available?
Thanks in advance
Constantinos

Hello Constantinos,
The Class Libraries that you will need come with Measurement Studio. Please note that VBA is not officially supported, however I have worked with customer who have used the VB6 ActiveX controls to communicate with GPIB instruments. You can use either the VISA or GPIB Class Libraries.
We have quite a few resources availble (all these found by searching Measurement Studio GPIB at ni.com):
Serial, GPIB, and VXI Communication with Measurement Studio VISA
In addition, we have shipping examples for VB6 and Visual C++.
I would love to get in touch with you more personally about your options, do I have permission to email you? Your email is in our database but due to NI's regard for our customer's privacy I can only access it with your permission.
Let me know and have a wonderful day!
