Getting started question - GPIB Analyzer (to trace data exchanges on GPIB bus) - needed hardware/software?

New community user - not sure if I've posted this to the correct forum/place - please advise.

I have a need to trace data transactions between two GPIB-equipped devices - an HP 8970B noise figure analyzer, and a HP 8971C noise figure test set. These two devices use a dedicated GPIB bus (the 8970B serves as the controller, the 8971C serves as the controlled device); there is no controller or system master involved in these transactions. During normal operation the 8970B sends and receives a few short messages to/from the 8971C, however, these messages are not documented as far as I can tell. I have a need to document these transactions so that I can use a PC (with software written for the task) to control the HP 8971C directly.

I searched for "gpib analyzer software" and found reference to this topic:

"NI GPIB Devices and Cables That Have a GPIB Analyzer"

at:

As I have no existing NI GPIB infrastructure currently operating, I would be configuring PC from scratch (using a NI PCI GPIB+ card), however, I cannot find the associated GPIB Analyzer application (from NI, I presume).

Would be grateful for any guidance as to how to get started, and of course will be happy to fill in the blanks on details I've inadvertently omitted from this initial posting!

Thank you
