GPIB-232CV-A Ready Light Not Coming On

I have a GPIB-232CV-A.   I have it connected to a pc's serial port via a 9 pin serial port.   When I power up the unit, all the lights blink for a moment, then they all go out and only the power LED remains lit.   The ready light is off.  Sending characters to it via HyperTerm does not echo them; I get nothing back.     Is something wrong with my GPIB-232CV-A?

Do you have the other end connected to a GPIB instrument? It's been a long time since I used one, but I don't remember anything much happening unless that was done and there's no reason for the converter to echo anything back if I recall. From the pc, it will convert RS-232 to GPIB commands and from the instrument, convert whatever the instrument sends to RS-232. The LED's on the converter are for GPIB status lines.

Thanks very much for your quick reply.  Yes, I did have it connected to a GPIB device, but the ready light did not turn on until I went into the Network Analyzer's menu and selected Talker/Listener.   Your reply was just what I needed to lead me to that.

Thanks again, and have a good day.
