Did you mean:

Deleting a MAX alias when instrument is not there?

We have 3 USB power supplies with aliases 'PS1' 'PS2' 'PS3'. The alias is assigned based on serial numbers of the supplies. If you replace one of the supplies with a 4th supply (different serial number) without first deleting the alias before powering down and removing the supply, MAX will not let you reuse the alias saying that it is already in use.

The only way to reuse the alias is:
1. Put the old serial number supply back in the system and deleting or rename it in MAX.
OR
2. Edit the VISACONF.INI file and delete the alias being sure to renumber all the other alias below that one and getting the alias count correct.

I do not wish to have the tech on the floor editing the VISACONF.INI file every time they swap out a supply for calibration or a supply dies.
Plus we have over 75 test sets and the VISACONF.INI is not always in the same place. On average they are swapping supplies a couple times a month.

I would like for them to be able to reconfigure the alias all from within MAX.

Thanks

Hi Jim,

You can clear an alias in MAX. Goto software-VISA. In the VISA-options map you see all aliases used. There you clear one or all.
