DataTaker 4000

Hi there,

Any ideas if the DT5000 labview drivers will work with the Dt4000?  I can't find anyone who has used these units with labview but I think it should work.  Is there a way to take the driver that already exists and massage it for the DT4000?  I guess I need to find out how the Rs232 commands work and look at any differences, right?

Also the Datalogger software downloads configuration details to the unit for datalogging onboard and the retrieval of stored data.  Is this something that can be handled by Labview or is this something you still need to use the Datalogger software for?

Cheers

Howdy Sniepsy,

I could not find a reference to any LabVIEW drivers for a DataTaker instrument on our Instrument Driver network.  However, that does not mean that they do not exist.  You should definitely check with DataTaker to see if they've developed any LabVIEW VI's and if you can use them.  The manual for the DT5000 instrument is the best place to go for a command list.  Also, check out this article on how to develop your own instrument drivers, or just use NI-VISA to communicate with your instrument.

In reference to your second question, if you can accurately determine which configuration details are being downloaded to the device, then you will have no problem implementing it in LabVIEW.  I think your best resource at this point is the manual for your instrument and DataTaker tech support.  Good luck, and please post back if you have further questions on how to develop a driver in LabVIEW.

Sincerely,

Chris G in AE
