Bluescreen after software installation

Hi,

after installation of VISA v3.2 or NI488.2 v2.3 and rebooting a blue screen comes up with error message ("...DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL...", without any driver name information). Unfortunately I don't know the real reason for that behavior, but while searching for that I gathered a lot of indications:

-every time when nipalk.sys is loaded, at start-up or at runtime, the system crashes with the mentioned blue screen
-starting in safe mode seems to be the only way to load nipalk.sys without having blue screen. But most of other drivers are not loaded in that case.
-blue screen happens without using any gpib-hardware (e.g. PCI Card, USB-B, ENET100)
-no additional NI Software is installed
-memDump doesn't show precise results (for me) (the attachment shows the bugcheck analysis)
-error happened in the same way before and after installing Windows 2003 Server SP1 RC1
-virus checker is disabled
-last showed load statement at start-up before bluescreen happens: 'acpitabl.dat'

System configuration:

Workstation: Fujitsu Siemens Celsius R630
-Intel Xeon Dual Processor 3.2GHz, 2 GB RAM
-Promise Fasttrack S150 TX4 Controller
-Onboard SCSI Controller is diabled
-Display adapter: NVIDIA Quadro PCI-E Series

OS: Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition (SP1) v.1289

Any help would be appreciated.

Franz,

maybe you should inspect the status of any NI-related services. Maybe some of 'em are set to autostart, but have not started due to one or the other reason. I had such kind of errors. Solution was to configure that service to try a restart of the service once when a start failed. This helped.
Another solution might be a repair-installation of the driver you mentioned. Or uninstall it, cleanup your machines' registry and reinstall it.

Hi Uwe,

thanks for quick answer!
Repair-installation of the driver, uninstall it, cleanup your machines' registry and reinstall it...I tried many times.
I also inspected the registry regarding NI-services. I have a W2k system for registry comparison and there are differences in fact. I'm not sure whether these are bugs or features ;-).
Another point is that no NI-services are visible in the list of windows-services, and therefore I suppose errors during installation process, although no error reported from installer. So I'm not able to configure, start or stop those services.
Maybe some rules for correct registry entries for win2003srv could be helpful.

Greetings from Austria!!!

This is actually a known issue with Fujitsu Siemens Celsius R630 computers. We are currently trying to work with Fujitsu to resolve this issue. We believe that it might be a problem with this computers bios. I will try to let you know when a work around or bios upgrade is available. You may also want to check Fujitsu's website to ensure that you have the latest bios update installed.

Hi all,
have the same problem.
After installing the NIDAQ800 Driver/Software and rebooting, i get a BlueScreen. (PCI-Card isn't in the PCI-Slot, because it's recommended to put it in after installing driver/software).
I disabled all NI Application on Windows Startup, same promlem...
I used the Repair function of the Software (after starting the "Last known functioning Configuration"). Else there is no change to start Windowsin the normal/standart Mode. Safe Mode works.

System:
-WindosXP Prof SP2
-Intel Xeon Dual Processor 3.2GHz, 2 GB RAM
-Mainboard: Tyan Thunder i7525 with BIOS: S7626 Rev. 2.02 (actual)

Thanks for all Help

Greatings

Hans

Hans,

Assuming your Blue Screen matches the description in this KnowledgeBase, then the problem is that your BIOS does not comply with the PCI specification.  It is recommended that you try the installing the latest BIOS for your motherboard, but you may find that an older version fixes the problem so I would recommend trying all versions of the BIOS available.

I also recommend contacting Tyan and ask them to update their BIOS.  I will also contact Tyan to let them know there is a problem with their BIOS, and help them identify what the problem is.  Hopefully they will fix the problem and release a new version of the BIOS.

I have actually the same problem with the tyan thunder S2676 mainboard, with the BIOS 2.02, windows XP SP2.
Actually, after installing the NI-DAQ or the NI-logger software, the system reboots itself after about 2 seconds of the windows bootup screen.
(see the thread " Windows XP does not boot after installation of NI-DAQ 7.3 and 8.0, Dual Xeon PC" in this forum.)
Actually also the Intel SATA RAID software complains about " BIOS does not support some features which will be disabled"
Do you have news from Tyan, or are the older BIOS versions working ?

Thanks

Tyan has provided a Beta bios to customers that fixed this problem on the thunder i7525 S2676 mainboard.  I checked their website and they do not currently have it available for download.  I would recommend contacting Tyan's technical support to see if they can give you a copy of the beta bios.  The version of the bios that I have seen is 2676203C.WPH

I have gotten the BIOS version 2.037 from Tyan, that I installed. It did not solve the problem. I am asking now for the version 2.03C, as indicated by you.
The software that makes the PC crash is the nipalk.sys.
