2 computers simple GPIB communication test

Hello,

I have a very simple setup:

- 1 computer with a GPIB card and Labwindows 8.5 [GPIB address 0  & declared as master on the bus]

- 1 computer with a GPIB card and LabVIEW 8.5 [GPIB address 10 & NOT declared as master on the bus]

I would like to be able to test a GPIB communication between the two, how can I do that?

In LabWindows, there is an example given [gpibrw.cws], as well as for LabVIEW [LabVIEW - GPIB.vi].

- Can I use these to make my test?

In both case the example program ask me for the GPIB address:

- Which address should I enter? I guess he address to which the command should be sent/read, but I would like to get a confirmation.

And finally,

- Which command should I send? Can I send whichever text?

Your help is welcome!

Best regards,

Mathieu

Hi Mathieu,

Here is a link to describe the setup that needs to be in place for computer to computer communication via GPIB.  http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/9CC0939663F1C5DE862565D70082E89E?OpenDocument.  I would recommend using the IBIC controls to make sure your communication is successful prior to using code.  The address should be to whichever device you are sending to.  So if you are sending from address 0 to address 10, you would want to put in address 10.  When you are sending commands from computer to computer you can send whatever command you would like.
