Yes, I know of several customers who have done this. You will need to attach an external modem to the FP-1000 with a null-modem cable. The external modem needs to be configured to auto-answer and to only allow communications at certain baud rate such as 28800. The FP-1000 needs to be configured to use this same baud rate.
To test this communications, you can dial the modem from a computer using a communications program such as Hyperterminal, and you can type in the commands as listed in the FP-1000/1001 Programmers Reference Manual.
From a programming perspective, FieldPoint Explorer does not provide native dial-up abilities to FieldPoint systems, but National Instruments Lookout program does provide automatic handling of the dial-up when communicating with
FieldPoint. Alternatively, you can write your own code to open the serial port, dial, and talk to the FP-1000. Again, the FP-1000/1001 Programmers Reference Manual provides the list of all the commands that you would need.
