LabVIEW FRC Simulation Questions

Like last year we are able to run a simulated robot using in the instruction found at https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-26300

The Install this year included "Simulation Support for FRC 2016" install component.

What is the purpose of this software as it relates to FRC simulation?

In a project I can select the tools menu and click on "Robot Simulation Model Builder..."

This opens up the "Robot Simulation Model Builder" Application where you can apparently build a robot add sensors and so on.

Is there some way to build a robot and then control it in the simulator?

Also why is the robot simulator the same layout with the boxes and barrels as last year?

Are there plans to update the simulator to better reflect this years game?

Hi Mark,

The new software updates didn't change any of the functionality of the simulation support, but rather updated the code so that it could be used with LabVIEW 2015, which all 2016 FRC software uses.

According to the tutorial manual, the robots are predefined and cannot be changed. They do come with simulated actuators and sensors, and Tutorial 7 will show you how to add gyro code to your simulated robot. However, this does mean that you cannot import your built robot into the test simulation field.

As of now we only have the old field in the simulation, however, we may update it at some point during the build season to reflect the new course.
