running a 5V relay via a BNC-2110?

Hi Dennis,

 You are correct: this is a school project. I'm doing a summer internship in a Neurobio department, but so far my project has been computer and electrical engineering, which are fields that I have no experience with. The task is to have our program turn on a 5V relay, whch turns on a 12 V generator to power a 12 V valve. I know that there's a manufactured solution available via Med Associates, but my boss would like to not spend a few thousand dollars.

If I fail at the current project, I'll try the transformer idea. That solution is totally free of using the NI DAQ card cand BNC-2110?


Also, this may be a random question, but is there a way I can interface the 6025E with MATLAB? We are getting annoyed with our 3rd party software designer, and there people in the lab who are fluent in MATLAB programming. We may decided to use it in this project.

Yes, my idea frees you from using the 6025 as a dc power supply.

I don't know much about Matlab. I have seen posts about people using it and NI's DAQ boards. You should trying doing a search of this or the multi-function DAQ board for posts regarding Matlab.

Hi Dennis,

 Thanks again for all your help. I have to give a presentation to a bunch of 5th graders at summer camp about the project. What would be the easiest way I could explain what a "port" is and what a "line" is?

Marieta, what exact problem are you having? Constructing the circuit or powering the circuit? The more details the better.Smiley Happy

Hi Neura,

Thanks for your reply. First, I have to say to you that I am pretty much new working with this kind of hardware and labview as well.

So, I just started trying to powering the circuit because I think, first step must be to understand signal level communication and after that, I can plan to start the programming.

The situation is: I have a infrared camera (phototach model 404B) wich is connected to block terminal(NI BNC-2110) through a coax cable. My pc has installed a PCI card 6024E and NI USB-6008. I already checked it through MAX(measurement & automation ) and it looks as is recognized.

I need to understand signal level communication of Camera or Sensor infrared because for starting the application I will get the data acquisition from this device. I dont see any light when I connected it to block terminal (BNC-2110).

I hope it ilustrate more to you my physical connection I have and I really appreciated your advices how I can build powering the circuit and If I need to do something with labview and so on. Thanks for your valuable help.

   I'm still a beginer at this, so hopefully one of the NI engineers is paying attention to this thread and will help you out.

 Do you have the camera connected to an analog I/O? Or is it connected to the digital I/O block? If it iyou are trying power the  the digital block yet you have it plugged into the analog I/O, the set up will not work.
