Using the SMB I/O on cRIO 9012

I have experience using a DAQ and Labview and analog signals, but cRIO and digital is very new to me. The cRIO9012 has an smb I/O trigger on the top. NI provided a couple files for using it, but I don't understand it. I'm just trying to use the trigger to output a voltage periodically that will start the other power sources for my system. How do I get this to work with the provided...?
