USB-6509 NI-DAQmx 9.0.2

I would like to evaluate the new USB-6509 and its Software driver. I assume that it contained within the NI-DAQmx 9.0.2.

My system has NI-DAQms 8.6.1 already is use for current development.

If I install 9.0.2, will this replace 8.6.1 or add it to the MAX, or will it upset everything in current development.

Or, maybe I should install it on a different computer.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Scott,

Support for the USB 6509 was added in DAQmx 8.7.1 so you will need to upgrade your driver to at least that version to use the new hardware.  The upgrade will replace your old version of DAQmx.

In general, when choosing which version of the driver to use there are three questions you must answer:

1.  Is your other NI hardware supported under the new driver?  I suspect that it should be, but you can always double-check in the readme (link to 9.1 readme).
2.  Is your ADE supported by the new driver? For example, here's a link showing DAQmx and LabVIEW compatibility--you'll note that support for LabVIEW 7.x and 8.0 are not supported by the latest DAQmx (9.1 needs to be added to the article but it supports the same LV versions as 9.0.2).
3.  Is your OS supported by the new driver?  Windows 2000 support was removed in DAQmx 9.1.

As long as the answer to the above three questions is "yes", then you shouldn't have any upgrade issues under normal circumstances.  When releasing new versions of DAQmx we try very hard to avoid behavior changes that could potentially break existing applications.

If you feel uncomfortable upgrading the driver on your current development machine, it might make sense to use a test machine to verify the upgrade does not create any unexpected issues before installing on your main system.

Hi Scott,

You can also download most versions of DAQmx from our website if needed.  Here's a link to the Drivers and Updates page.
