After reviewing several instrument drivers for our the NI Tools Network, we have found the following documents were valuable in helping partners understand developing instrument drivers with NI-VISA and LabVIEW. VISA Driver Development
Using the VISA Driver Development Wizard and NI-VISA to Develop a PXI/PCI Driver in Windows - The device driver created with the VISA Driver Development Wizard is a .inf and allows you to utilize the NI-VISA LabVIEW or C APIs to develop an instrument driver with register level programming. This device driver is also supported under LabVIEW Real-Time systems through NI-VISA.
