FTC -LVLM 2011-2012 Known Issues 2011-2012

Schematic Editor

  • Schematic Editor cursor does not change and will not allow access to Sensor/Motor palettes. The problem has to do with the Color Settings of your monitor. Display settings should be set to 32 bit, True Color, High Color or something similar. On Windows operating systems, you can get to these setting by right clicking on the desktop and choosing "Screen Resolution" or "Display Properties." Then find the control that allows you to control your color depth. (You may need to click on "Advanced Settings.") You should set it to the best color resolution that the display supports. Depending on the security you have set up with the school computers, you may need to request that the school IT department give you access or make the change for you. Unfortunately, if you cannot change those settings, you cannot use that particular computer with the Schematic Editor.

Remote Control Editor

  • Problem with long file names (>15 characters). When you have the Remote Control Editor generate code, you get a dialog asking you to make a file name for the VI. When you switch to Game Mode, this VI shows up in the Download and Run section of the dropdown. If you choose it and then push the Start Test button, the VI will compile, download, briefly start running and the immediately stop if the file name is >15 characters long. This prevents you from being able to drive your robot. To work around this, choose the abbreviated name of the VI from the "Run" section of the dropdown (as opposed to the "Download and Run" section.) If your file name is less than 16 characters, this is not a problem.
  • FIRST Tech Challenge Toolkit Only: Generated code not correctly generated for Action: Move for Distance with a Tetrix motor with encoder. The generated software instead generates code to move a LEGO motor. Simply replace the LEGO vi with the TETRIX Move a Fixed Distance.vi and wire in the appropriate motor name.

Samantha Module

  • The Fantom driver cannot connect to the Samantha Wi-Fi Module if the network is not configured correctly. Refer to the wireless setup instructions on the FIRST website for the correct network configurations
  • (Mac OS X) If the computer is connected to the Samantha Wi-Fi Module and an Ethernet cable is plugged into the computer, Fantom loses its connection to the Samantha Wi-Fi Module. Unplug the Ethernet cable from the computer to successfully connect to the Samantha Wi-Fi Module.

My display settings match what is reccomended above, but I am still unable to access the motor and sensor palettes in the schematic editor.  Are there other issues that can lead to this?

Remote Control Editor:

I have experienced the  'generate code' vi's mysteriousy reverting to 'computer targets'. And then to make the situation worse, they are still being 'deployed' to the brick without error (or any kind of notification). This results in a program that doesn't run of course....leading you to think it is a problem with your code. We are 3rd year LVLM users and have never had this happen with the 2010 version.

It was when I saw the vi's listed in the Robot Project that I noticed the icon (screen vs. NXT)  was wrong. So, I made sure that the team paid attention to this detail, and remembered to 'target to NXT' before saving and deploying, if they notice that the 'toolbar' is that of a computer target (or see it in the heading).

This might explain why some teams say that their deployed teleop 'doesnt work'.

Re: teleop controller button no response

This software for NXT and TETRIX is TOTALLY USELESS!!!!!

I put one EXACTLY SAME program to 2010 and 2012 version lvlm, and download them to nxt.

The result makes me so surprise that the only thing I come up is to use robotc instead of lvlm.

In 2010 version, the HS755HB servo does not work, they only accept the first command and then locked at the very first position, but the button works well.

In 2012 version, the button of controller 1 DOES NOT WORK AT ALL!!!! I just don't understand how this happen, because the program i use is just the program i use in 2010ver.

If the hs755hb controlling is new in 2012, then i won't blame the 2010version lvlm. But why the compiling of 2012 is not even better than 2010?

I know NI increase the speed of compiling, is that increase of speed come from cutting a part of the program?????

Who can tell me where can i report a bug? If I cannot solve this program before wednesday, I'll probably change to robotc, because the first match of our team is on Dec 1st.

Hueter:

I am sharing this from another thread https://decibel.ni.com/content/thread/19271?tstart=0. As teams are getting more into the LV2012 and closer to tournaments (ours is DEC 8th) I'm starting to see more frustration.  The last week or so there have been many more posts showing up in the FTC Forum 'Teams Helping Teams - Programming' that are addressing difficulties with LabVIEW. Some are 'rookie operator error', some are these deeper issues (ex.. generate code, and motor 'linking' issues). I've answered as many as I can, and will continue to monitor those forums. In many case I have provided links to this forum for them too.

I am up-to-date and still having serious issues that dont' prevail in LVLM 2010:

Help About status checks confirm: LVLM 12.0.1 f5;  NXT Module  SP1 f2; and MCT 2013-2014 Running Windows 8. [LVLM was from online download (not the disc)]

I suspect that jerry_dcjx is savvy enough to be up-to-date as well (he is a 3rd year LV user), but you would need to confirm that with him. His testing and comparison of the same vi compiling in 2010/2012 is telling, and I have certainly experienced similar discrepancies.  It's really hard (if not impossible) to fix broken code that is actually written correctly.

In light of the fact that the SAMANTHA/FCS software is still the same version (v3.0.6) we used with LVLM2010/FTC Toolkit, has there been any conversation with FIRST to allow teams to use LVLM2010 instead of LVLM 2012?  Are there significant differences to the 'Tetrix' users that absolutely require using the newer LVLM2012/MCT ?  It's really not a good sign when you have 3rd year teams encountering 'dead ends' that make them need to bail out of using LabVIEW (especially when we know that we can accomplish what we need with the 2010 setup).

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

APOLOGY: The title on this original post (and it's content) led me to believe this was possibly regarding the new LVLM 2012. Is there a thread addressing 'Known Issues' for this new version? I saw one for FRC, but nothing for 'FTC - LVLM 2012 Known Issues'.  Thank You.
