Problem installing USB 6008 on Windows XP Embedded

Hi,

I have successfully installed the NI USB 6008 device on quite a few XP Embedded machines.  I'm not sure if XP embedded is supported or not, but it seems to have worked up until now.

We now have a new batch of XP embedded machines and I can no longer get the driver to install.

I have tried using both the NI DAQmx v9.0.2 and NI DAQmx v9.2.1.  I have also tried the full download (all crazy 1.2GB of it) and the 'Core' version.  All of the versions claim to install sucessfully but when I plug the USB-6008 into the USB port Windows says the USB device is not recognized.  I found a patch for a USB problem (NI-DAQmx 921p1.zip) and applied that but it hasn't made any difference.

I also tried the NIDeviceDriverDatabaseRepairUtility.exe but that didn't work either.

I have uninstalled and installed many times.  Once after installing v9.2.1 it complained it couldn't find niede.sys for a NI Ethernet Device Enumerator.  I found the file but it didn't help when I pointed it at the file location.  The install finished but still the device was not recognized.

I always install the software before inserting the USB cable.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be, or ideally know how to fix it?

Regards

Steve

Hi Steve,

Unfortunately, the normal versions of NI-DAQmx will not work for XP Embedded. You will need to install NI-DAQmx 8.7.1 for XP Embedded - which versions of NI-DAQmx have worked for XPe for you up to now?

Hi Imtiaz,

Thanks for the reply.  I will try to get an XPe image built with the components you suggested.  Unfortunately we do not build the XPe images ourselves and we already have a few XPe devices, so I will need to figure out how to go forward with them.

In the past we have installed NI-DAQmx version 9.0.2.  On the first attempt to install the installer always fails half way through.  We then uninstall and re-install and the installer makes it to the end.  Then we restart the machine and it fails to find the file niemrkw.sys, but we point it at location C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-DAQ\staging\niem, then we plug in the USB device and it works.

As you can see the previous method is far from ideal!

Once I have had a chance to try your suggestion I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi,

I tried adding the NI DAQmx 8.7.1 Runtime 5 component into the image but lists many missing dependencies.  Is there any other component i should add up with the runtime component listed in the site http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/1111/lang/en

Thanks!

Hello I just wanted to ressurect this thread.

As I belieave I'm hitting the same issue.

I also get the issue stating that the NI Ethernet Enumerator Driver has an issue

So here is my story:

I have a test station running XP Embedded and a USB 6009 device.

I've had it running on LV 2011 but wanted to upgrade to 2012 across the project.

Since I was running low on HDD space I went to Uinstall Programs and Features and removed all NI Software , and started over.

Installing the default settings.

So I installed the software from the August 2012 distribution. LabVIEW and DAQMX.

I can't get the device to run now ...

Nothing basically works ... not even serial comms...

I'm still stuck.

The other issue I've observed is:

When I plug in my DAQ - 6009 USB Device I get this ( see picture attached )

A dialog stating that the niemrkw.sys file is needed.

http://forums.ni.com/t5/Multifunction-DAQ/niemrkw-sys/td-p/1019627

I went to Control Panel to NI Software removed ALL of it.

Downloaded DAQMX 8.7.1 as advised by the thread above and also a NI Customer Support.

I've ran DAQMX 8.7.1 and I still get the dialog ....

Confused now will get back to this tommorow any help would be greately appreciated.

Maciej

So,

I have to give the credit to the UK NI support guys here.

Thanks a lot!

Luckily XP embedded isn't my deployment target 🙂 so I'll sort this issue out by getting a different OS.

This is a reply I got from NI suppot :

"Hi Maciej

I found a knowledge base about changing the firmware on the 6009 to different DAQmx versions. This might be why the drivers can't be found, worth a try at least. Other other suggestion I can think of right now would be changing to another OS.

https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA03q000000YIRDCA4&l=en-US

Let me know how this goes.

Many thanks.
