When do I need to define a ROI?

Can someone explain to me when I need to define a ROI? Some of the examples, e.g., Basic Particle Analysis, don't appear to define one, yet work fine.

I occasionally get error 31006, "The image is not large enough for the operation." I find that if I draw a ROI on the viewer, my program runs fine.

What is the philosophy behind ROI's?

BTW - I am using IMAQ for VB.

Thanks!

You can use the ROI when you want to mask or cut some part from original image. if you are masking the image and your Region Of Interest(ROI) is very small then it will through the error, becuase the masked image is very small.

ROIs are useful when you want to focus your image processing and analysis on a particular region or multiple regions in an image. ROIs and when to use them are discussed in more detail in the IMAQ Vision Concepts Manual, particularly on pages 2-8 through 2-10: IMAQ Vision Concepts Manual

I hope this helps. Best wishes!
