Acquisition Frame Rate Limit

So I am using a Prosilica GC640, with a GigE vision ethernet connection, camera to try to take images and track a rolling ball.  Now the camera is spec'd to take 200 fps at 640x480 resolution and in MAX the "AcquisitionFrameRateAbs" field reflects this (~188).  However there is another field that is called "AcquisitionFrameRateLimit" that I can not get to go over 66 fps.  What else can I look at/adjust to try and get the camera to acquire frames closer to its advertised rate?

Thanks,
Ted

Hi Ted,

I believe on the Prosilicas you'll need to manually change the exposure time shorter in order to get the 200fps. At its default exposure setting you'll see the 66fps cap. Additionally, I believe you need to enable the frame rate control via a separate attribute before it takes effect (you may have already done this). I don't have the camera in front of me at the moment, so I can't tell you what those attributes are right now. Please let me know if you continue having problems after adjusting the exposure time.

Hello Ted!

How do you have your camera connected to your development machine? Are you using a gigabit ethernet port and not a standard 10/100 port? Are you connecting to this camera over a network, or through a crossover cable?

Thanks, it actually was the exposure time setting.  It is up to running at the full speed that it should be now.

Hi Ted,

Prosilica cameras power-up with a default exposure time of 15 ms,
which, surprise, surprise, equals 66 fps (1/0.015). If you decrease
the exposure time to something less than 1/200, you will be able to
achieve 200 fps at 640x480.

Regards,
Marty
