gpib sniffer

I would like to monitor the gpib bus for a labview pxi system, currently connecting to a number of gpib instruments.

Plan is to connect my laptop via USB-GPIB controller to the existing system, but not having much luck in capturing the gpib commands on the existing gpib bus.

NI Trace on my laptop won't work, as the actually 488 software running the GPIB bus is on the PXI system.

Also tried a GPIB read command from my laptop, but it's not picking up any traffic.

Any one have any experience on how to setup my laptop GPIB device as a listener  ?

Thanks

You need to use GPIB interface with analyzer on board as shown in http://sine.ni.com/np/app/main/p/bot/no/ap/ictrl/lang/en/pg/1/sn/n17:ictrl,n21:25,n9:Y/. Then, use Start>>All Programs>>National Instruments>>NI-488.2>>GPIB Analyzer.

Why aren't you running NI-Trace on the PXI system?

Can I sniff GPIB traffic while I am a listener?

Hi Soumya2005,

National Instruments offers GPIB Analyzer and NI I/O Trace for sniffing GPIB traffic.  You will need a GPIB+ card to use GPIB Analyzer.  You can find more information on using GPIB Analyzer here: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/ABA74984DA039B2286256E6F007B0082?OpenDocument.
