Remote Labview problem

Solved!
Go to solution

Hello!

I have a NI USB 6341 DAQ that suppose to control a PMT and LED trough Labview 2010.

But, Labview is not installed in my personal PC, I use it remotely from the University and I'm facing problem to use DAQmx (version 9.3.5) in Labview.

What I want to know is how to make my remote Labview to see the DAQ in my computer.

I imagine this is a very simple question, but after hours trying to find a solution I decided to ask the experts... 😉

Thanks!

Hello RadGent,

Is the USB 6341 connected to your University PC?

Or is it connected to your personal PC?

Hello RadGent,

So your LabVIEW and DAQmx is installed on one pc (university) and your USB DAQ-device to the other one.

This is not the intended way to use a USB-device.

The PC that has the USB DAQ-device connected to it should have LabVIEW installed on it.

Is there a specific reason why you don't install LabVIEW on the personal pc?

Hi

I have DAQmx installed in my personal computer as well. It's only Labview that I need to acess remotely.

This is a service provided by the university where you have acess to many softwares without the need on stalling then on my personal PC.

I saw this http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3682, but don't know if that would work in my case.

regards

Hello RadGent,

That solution won't work in your case.

However with NI-DAQmx 8.0 and later, NI-DAQmx OPC capabilities can be used to achieve reliable network functionality from remote systems.
RDA (as mentioned in the document you provided) is not supported in NI-DAQmx.

You could try something like this:

http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3742

The best and easiest steps to take would however be to install the software locally, especially because you're working with a USB-device.

Going over ethernet to the university and back to the same pc to connect to the DAQ board would seriously increase the latency of the system.
