PC has a load of > 2.0 when running nipalk and PCI board

Hallo, I receently saw, that my lab box, running Centos 4.6, has a load average of 2.00 and above, when the nipalk driver is running with GPIB-PCI-board. The same does not occur with the USB adapter. With ps and top I don't see any reasons for the high load in the user space. What is the cause for this load and how I can change it. The IRQ of the board is not shared as I can see in /proc/interrupts: 0: 1248540 IO-APIC-edge timer ..... 217: 0 IO-APIC-level nipalk .....

Hello Axel,

You are correct, that the load seems relatively high when there is a PCI-GPIB card installed.  The reason is because there are a few worker threads that are sleeping when a PCI-GPIB card is installed.  Since top does not automatically filter out idle threads, the worker threads are counted.

Unless you are experiencing problems with computer responsiveness, this is probably the issue.

Thanks,
Steven T.

Hi Steve,

the responsiveness of the box is good, I was just suprised about the high load value without seeing any reason for it.

Thanks, Axel
