FP2000 shuts down

Hi:
My field point, 2 years old FP-2000, started to shut down without power shortage.
I tried to add a second vent to cool down the processor but still the problem happens.
Other than that, it works fine.
Any idea?
Thanks

Ok maybe I could explain a bit more...

My Fp-2000, 2 year old shuts down after some hours of operation (1,2, 10 hours) since last saturday. Thinking of overheat protection I added a second vent close to the processor. The ambiant temperature is around 20-25C and especially nothing changed since Saturday. To restart the FP I just power off and on and the controller is ok for a little while.

What could it be? Should I need to change the field point? What is the usaual life time?

Is there a maximum current that should pass through the field point and its modules (AI110, TB10, DI403, DO301)? The actual current supply to the field point is about 1.5A on 26V.

Thanks

Sev

Hi Sev,
I think it's worth investigate deeper in your problem: I'm using cFP since 2005, and no shutdown until today.  Sometimes it hangs, but I fixed it, and now I know the problem.

I've seen MTBF for FieldPoint, from NI tech support, and for example, cFP-2120 has 301,000 Hours, at 25 °C, it's a great time!

Check your application on another controller.... or ask NI support! Please, report if you find the problem....

   Have a nice day!

Hello Sev,

I would tend to agree with Graziano.  It seems like the problem may be deeper.  It may be worth speaking with an applications engineer to troubleshoot over the phone.  Please visit www.ni.com/ask to create a service request.

Thanks guys!

Ok here is the update: it was not the field point. I tried with another brand new processor and it was the same behavior.
I found out by disconnecting all 4 modules and reconnecting one by one. At one point of these tests, the FP did not even start up blinking red four times (meaning big trouble) when the faulty module was connected.
Finally, the fault was coming from one Dual Channel Analog Input 0-100mV (FP-AI-V100M) on the terminal base FP-TB-10. I don't know more on the fault yet.

It has been running for a week without trouble Smiley Very Happy and I still cannot beleive that one dual channel module was shutting down the overall field point.

Thanks again for your reply

Sev
