"Add a Vertex" Problem

Solved!
Go to solution

I have a complex keep out area I need to modify but cannot get the add vertex function to work.  I tried some test KOA's, copper polygons, and silkscreen polygons and cannot select a single line so as to have the Add Vertex menu pick be anything but grayed out.  I have successfully used the function in the past but can no longer get it to work.  I have the problem if I am trying to select the object even if the layer it is on is selected as well (e.g. Trying to add a vertex to a KOA with the KOA layer selected). I also have tried with different combinations of selection filters.

Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug in the software?

Hi there,

That sounds very strange. I think you are doing everything correctly. Can we ask what version of Ultiboard you are using and what operating system? Can we also ask for a copy of the design file?

Thanks.

You can replicate the problem with a new file. Just create a board outline, place a copper polygon and then a KOA internal to the copper polygon.  I am using XP SP3 but don't think this has anything to do with it.  The UB version is 10.2.357.

I think I have figured this out, however.  The Edit>Vertex section of the user's manual is incorrect or at best confusing.  The issue is in how the line is segment where you want the new vertex is selected.  The part in the manual about the filled in selection boxes is wrong in that there is no visible indication of which segment is selected.  Further, you must "select" the segment by double-clicking on one of the unfilled selection boxes (at the center of the line segment if interest) while having the layer and the proper selection filter enabled.  (e.g.. For a KOA use the "Other Objects" filter and assure the KO layer is active). Once you double click on the unfilled box at the center of a segment you can then right click and select Add Vertex in the vertex sub-menu as it will no longer be grayed out.  Once the vertex appears you can drag it wherever you want it.

I strongly urge that the manual be updated (or the code changed to make it conform to the manual).

Correction:  You *can* see the selected segment as described in the manual.  The secret instruction is to select the segment you must click on the open box in the middle of the line segment you are after.  I can't find anything in the manual saying that.  Once you do then it all works including the boxes at the end of the segment becoming filled in indicating that segment is selected.  This is different that selecting traces, components, etc.  where you can click on any part of it to select it.
