USB-6008 not recognised by MAX

I'm trying to install a new USB-6008 Multifunction DAQ card onto my lab pc which runs on Windows XP Pro.  I installed the supplied drivers (NI-DAQmx v8.5) and the Windows Device Manager has no problem in identifying the DAQ and assigning a driver to it.  However, when I go into Measurement and Automation Explorer the USB-6008 does not appear under Devices and Interfaces - there is only one option under that folder, which is "PXI System (Unidentified)".  Refreshing the window does not change this.

We took the USB-6008 DAQ and put it on a laptop with the same operarating system, and the Measurement and Automation Explorer recognised it ok on that computer, so why isn't it recognised on the lab desktop PC?

I've looked all over this website and tried reassigning the driver, unplugging and plugging in the USB, and restarting the PC!

Please can anyone help me?!

Thanks

Maybe you can try to uninstall all the NI software and drivers, and reinstall all after this ...

Hi,

It sounds to me like the issue could be with the firmware on your USB-6008 device. Have a read through the following Knowledge Base article as it may be relevant to your problem.

Please let me know if this does/doesn’t solve your problem.

Hope this helps,

Hi Ian Colman and JamesC,

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the article, but I had already found it and followed the directions without any success!!  Do either of you have any other suggestions?

Kind regards,

NottsZoe

Hi,

Sorry that wasn't any help. If you managed to successfully reinstall your NI software but still have a problem, please try the following:

Remove the device from windows using ‘Windows Device Manager’ then re-insert the device into a different USB port and install as you did on the laptop. If MAX is still not detecting your device then try verifying your MAX library by following step 4 of this KB article to reinstall it.

Best of luck with this and let me know how you get on,

Many Thanks,

Ian C.

Hi Ian C,

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of that document - it actually turned out that restarting the NI Configuration Manager and Device Loader in the control panel enabled the MAX to recognise the USB6008, and then we had to reinstall the driver.  It now all works fine!

Thank you for your help and advice,

NottsZoe
