Program hanging in LabVIEW when using 8.2.1 or later

I had a problem recently where a program would randomly hang for several seconds. When the program would hang, my DAQ buffers would overflow and cause a shutdown of my DAQ loop. Over the course of troubleshooting, I found that opening the right-click menu on the Windows taskbar tab of a VI would cause that VI to freeze. The background processing would still be running, but the front panel would freeze. The CPU usage would also increase to 50% on dual core or hyperthreaded CPUs and 100% on single core/non-hyperthreaded CPUs. This would happen even if the application was compiled and just using the run-time engine. Through further investigation, I found that this did not happen on LabVIEW 8.20, but it would happen on all later versions. The version my software was running on was 8.5, so I downgraded to 8.20 and the problem has gone away.

Thank you. I am unfamiliar with how this process works. If you find a solution, is it patched, or is it included in the next version?

No problem. We report the issue to R&D and they look into it, look for a solution and determine if the fix can be implemented in a later version. You can call NI and refer to the CAR number to see what the status of the process is.

Also, since another engineer answered your original thread and also reported this issue, the correct CAR # is 116562 since the other was a duplicate.
