Update from 8.6.1 to lv 2009, lv missing vi errors, mostly DAQmx

Solved!
Go to solution

I built an application with LV 8.6.1.   I have both 8.6.1. and lv 2009 on this computer.  When I click the shortcut, lv 2009 automatically tries to load the application and gives me errors because it cannot find the sub vis, mostly DAQmx vis.

1.  Is there a way I can get the shortcut to automatically load lv 8.6.1?

2.  Are there actually files I am missing that prevent the application from loading in LV 2009?

I don't know what shortcut you are referring to. If it's a shortcut to the exe, then neither 8.6.1 or 2009 will start. If you have a shortcut to a project or VI, then the version of LabVIEW that you last started will load. Just manually start 8.6.1, close it, and the next time 8.6.1 will start.

LabVIEW 2009 requires you to install DAQmx. You got a compatible version with your 2009 distribution. You can also download either 8.9.5 or 9.0.0.

I am having a similar problem. I recieved an older program from someone and I'm not sure what version it was created with. I do have LabVIEW 2009 on my computer and have installed DAQmx 9.0.2. However, I am still unable to load these vi's. Does anyone have any other ideas? I am a beginner with LabVIEW so explain in simple terms please.

Did you verify during installation that "LabVIEW support", or something to that effect was selected during installation? Have you tried a repair of the installation?

How do I go about a repair of the installation? I don't remember if that was checked.

To do a repair or add features simply re-run the installer. A repair will not provide options to check what features were installed. It simply goes through and checks the files on disk agains the distribution. To change the features select "add/remove" when you get the first dialog upon re-running the installer.

I went back and installed the support for all the previous versions of LabVIEW and I am still having the problem loading the DAQmx vi's. The picture shows the files that I am unable to locate.

Have you checked to see if you have a C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2009\vi.lib\DAQmx directory? That's where all the DAQmx VIs are. You should have 3 folders in there ("calibration", "configure", and "create") and 4 .llb files ("miscellaneous.llb", "read.llb", "templates.llb", and "write.llb"). At least that's what I have with my installation.

Hi,

there is a help file available on NI website that describes how to ensure proper DAQmx installation: here!

Best regards,

When I looked for the directory for the DAQmx in the vi lib, it wasn't there. I looked at the instructions on how to ensure the proper DAQmx installation and I ended up uninstalling all my National Instruments software and started over with labview, once I got that installed I installed the newest patch for LabVIEW and then DAQxm 9.0.2 without ever opening LabVIEW. Once I got these components installed, I found that I now had the directory for DAQmx. Now I can open the program and everything works properly. Thank you to everyone that helped me out with this problem.
