NXT Custom Block Development with LabVIEW 8.2.1

I'm trying to develop a custom NXT block using LabVIEW 8.2.1.  I am having trouble importing the finished block into the Mindstorm environment.  My block is always greyed out in the import list.  My block seems to compile just fine.  In fact, if I create a new example block from a template and try to import that without modifications, I get the same behavoir.

Any ideas on how I can debug this?

Try the "LabVIEW fans of Lego" board for more targeted help:

Good luck! 🙂

Forgive me for posting not once (but twice) in the wrong board.  However, I'm having a hard time getting my post to go the right place.  I thought I was posting the "LabVIEW Fans of Lego" board, but I see now that when I click the "Post Message" button in the appropriate board, there is actually a "Select Board" field on the post message screen (http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/post?board.id=beta18) that doesn't pick "LabView Fans of Lego", but instead "LabVIEW".  In fact, there is not even an entry for "LabVIEW Fans of Lego" in that combo box.

What am I missing here?  I don't want to keep bombarding the wrong lists.

Hmmm, interesting.

The forum got a major software overhaul last Friday, and I suspect that something broke in the process. 😉

I'm not 100% sure, but I think that only 7.1 can create blocks.

I've been working with the LabVIEW NXT toolkit and I'd like to see if I can wrap my head around this issue. By custom block, do you mean a custom program built in LabVIEW that you download to the NXT brick? I know you can do this in LabVIEW 7.1 through 8.5 if you have the LV Toolkit for NXT. I might be able to help if the NXT connection wizard is not able to download your program to your NXT brick.
Please let me know if I've misunderstood.

A block is a VI (or a group of VIs, I think) which can be called from the Mindstorms IDE which most children use. I believe these can only be created with 7.1 (at least I seem to remember that used to be the case).

Thanks for the clarification and I believe you are correct. The ability to create custom blocks for NXT is only available in LV 7.1. I checked with our go-to in R&D on that one.
