Development with LabView 6.1 + 8.0 for 95 - XP

I have to develop software running on Win 95 - Win XP systems.
Until now I still use LabView 6.1.
Is it posible to install 6.1 + 7.1 + 8.0 on the same development system
and to build applications for 95 and XP?
Is there a chance to down convert applications from 8.0 to 6.1?
Or can I at least build different app. with the different versions?
A short reply would be nice.

Hello Willi,

here are the answers to the questions:

"Is it posible to install 6.1 + 7.1 + 8.0 on the same development system and to build applications for 95 and XP?" Yes, it is possible to install different versions from LV on one PC system.

"Is there a chance to down convert applications from 8.0 to 6.1?" Yes, you can convert from 8.0 to 6.1, but you could only convert one step down. So, 8.0 to 7.1, 7.1 to 7.0 and 7.0 to 6.1.

"Or can I at least build different app. with the different versions?" The newer versions of LV have more functions, is this the question?

Hi ThomasD,

thanks for "the" answer. 😉
If I understand you correct, I can install the 3 Versions on one PC.
I assume that I should start with 6.1 than 7.1 and finally 8.0.
Than I can keep the vi's for software that has to run under 95 in version 6.1,
for 98 to NT in version 7.1
and for the stuff that only has to run under XP in version 8.0.
A short reply would be nice.

You can have multiple versions of LabVIEW installed on a single computer. You can save from version 8.0 to 7.1, from version 7.0 to 6.1, so to go from version 8 to version 6.1, you need copies of LabVIEW 8, 7.1, and 7.0. Version 7.1 does not support Windows 98 or lower. Version 7.0 does not support Windows 95. You cannot buy version 7.0 any longer. I don't know if you can still order 7.1 with the release of 8.0.

Hi Dennis Knutson,

thanks for the answer (and cleaning up the thread?).
I have all necessary versions of LabVIEW as we have a
developer suite subscription since 2001.
But I still did use only version 6.1 on my main dev-pc,
as most of the software had to run also under win95.
As I got a new pc, I want to have all versions under one OS installed.
Until now it was not very convinient to change the OS (boot manager),
if had to change something on a vi with a higher version.
So now I gone try to have all versions installed under XP.
Thanks for the help.

I will add that it is probably a good idea to install them in order, i.e. LabVIEW 6.1, then 7.0, etc. Doing it in the other order may introduce interesting problems.

Hi LV_Pro,

thanks for this information.
I already did it this way.
The only pity is that I have to install all the toolkits also for every version ...

Hi Folks,

now I have a problem.
I installed 6.1 incl. Database Connectivity and Report Generation.
Than installed 7.1 incl. Report Generation.
Now want to install  also the Database Connectivity for 7.1.
But this does not work!
when running the setup I can choose between Modify, Repair and Remove.
I tried Repair first, but it did not work! (6.1 still OK, but 7.1 no function)
Than I tried Repair: the correct path (...\LabVIEW 7.1\) was shown,
but nothing happend.
Is there any solution ofr this problem?

A short reply would be nice.

Hi folks,

sorry but I did not find the option to edit my postes after a view minutes,
so I have to write the next one

I think I found a solution for the problem:
I copied the subdirs  from one subdir (...\LabVIEW 6.1\vi.lib\addons\...)
to the other ((...\LabVIEW 7.1\vi.lib\addons\...) and it seams to work.
A short reply would be nice.
