monitoring GPIB bus

Hi,
I have a PCI-GPIB card on a Win2K operated computer and I want to monitor a GPIB bus
on which an HP-UX computer is the controller.
NI Spy did not do the job. It is written in the documentation that we can use
our GPIB card as a bus monitor but they lack a detailed explanation.
I have run the GPIB Analyzer program but it generated a message saying PCI-GPIB
on Win2K is not supported and I should have either Win98 or WinNT.
If I change my operating system, can I use GPIB Analyzer to monitor the bus?
Or is there any other way of operating my card as a bus monitor?

Thanks and regards,

Curreny WinNT/2000/XP do not support the Analyzer functionality. If you move to Win98, you can monitor the bus. You may want to contact NI Tech support and ask if they are releasing support for 2000 in the near future.

Hi,

What Ashik said was true. Unfortunately we do not currently support the analyzer card on Win2K. You can always check what hardware works with what software on this page: http://www.ni.com/support/gpib/versions.htm. If you want to drop back to Windows NT, you will be able to use the card. Make sure that your card is a PCI-GPIB+ card (the plus indicates that it has the analyzer hardware onboard).

We are currently working on the analyzer drivers for 2k and XP. There is not scheduled release date as of right now. I can tell you that I anticipate seeing them around the middle to end of next year, but that is entirely speculation.

Hope this helps out!

Hi all:
I can tell you a good news, you can monitor GPIB with software, needn't buy GPIB+.
you can find this software at http://www.tek.com/

Posting a link to Tek's main web page really doesn't help that much. Provide a more direct link. And your image isn't included because your C drive is not a web server. Use the attachment button below to include a local image in your post.

Two things:
1) The Tektronix monitor is for their VISA application layer. National instruments has a very similar product called NI Spy that can be used to monitor API calls from NI-488.2 as well as NI-VISA.
2) The analyzer is fully supported on 2000/XP now.
