How to Add Custom Errors to the Error/Warning Dialog Box

Does anyone know whether it's possible to add your own custom warnings and errors to the Error/Warning Dialog Box in the System Explorer?

We'd like to use this dialog to warn users of configuration issues from within our custom device.  Thanks!
