what is the vme/vxi market trend?

Hi.
I'm trying to decide on a standard chassis with a standard board for a certain project.
I'm trying to pick the board according to performance and maket trend.

I have 2 questions:
1. As far as I understand, all boards (VME, VXI, cPCI ) have similar performance (data bandwidth, power etc). Is that really the case?
2. What is the market trend regarding these boards? will any of them become obsolete? is one of them used more than the others?

thanks,

Mark

Hello,

There is a great document titled Evaluating PXI and VXI Platforms for your Measurement and Automation Needs which discusses the differences between VXI and PXI.  When it comes to market trend the PXI platform  is a better choice because it builds upon more modern technologies such as PCI and Plug and Play configurations so it will continue to grow in the market.  The VXI met goals that were set by standards in 1987 so it is an older technology.

Hi.

First of all, thanks for your help. Can you direct me to a similar article that compares VME, cPCI & ATCA?

thanks,

Mark

Mark,

I couldn't find anything that compared the three directly. I did find some info on VME but you might try google and see if that produces some comparison documents..
