Did you mean:

Is the pinout exactly the same for both ends of a point to point MXI-2 cable?

According to the MXI-2 cable pinout, it would appear that both ends of the cable I have should be wired exactly the same:
The problem, however, is that when I connect it to a VXI-MXI-2 card, and test the connections, it's acting like one end or the other is backwards.  What I mean by this is: what should be pins A-D 3 are acting like A-D 34, A-D 5 are acting like A-D 32, and so on.

Should one end of the cable be wired the opposite direction of the diagram?  (i.e. Should the pins count 1-36 from left to right, rather than right to left as shown in the manual?)

Also according to the manual, the signals on all 35 & 36 pins are unconnected, which is how I know I've wired the pins inside the connector correctly (according to the diagram).

Any help is appreciate, thank you.

After reading that manual a few times, I figured it out.  I had been incorrectly assuming a few things and they were confusing me.

It is the same, except for the GIN and GOUT on either side, which is specified by the manual.
