Test monitor what are 'Inputs' and 'Outputs' used for in a test step. Is it used to store  'raw data'? "NI System LinkNamed Value.lvClass'.

The inputs and outputs are intended to store values that might change between different test executions. For instance, you may run the same test with different input voltages and the input could greatly impact the different parameters that came out of the test and thus you would want to be able to capture that as to not compare two runs of the test where two different inputs were used. This value can be used in looking at the trends so that you only compare the test against others with the same inputs.

As far as what can be stored in that field, it's a Name/Value pair where the name needs to be a string.

Hi Brandon,

Thank you very much for your reply. This might be the reason when changing the inputs the trend graph does not show that parameter in the same graph.

What are the outputs typically used for? To store raw data?

I don't understand your remark:

Inputs and outputs data contains a 'name' (str) and 'Anything' (JSON format) data field right?

Kind regards,

The use case for using outputs would be in the event that there is any metric or value that wasn't captured by a measurement or parameter in your test step. One quick example of this would be a score that you assigned to tests based off of measurements that took place in your test step. However, it can be used as a way to log any other 'results' or data that you want to associate with the test step.

That is correct.
