Calling LabVIEW vi's from Signal Express?

I have an evaluation version (30-day) of NI Signal Express Tektronix Edition and no experience using this product.  I would like to call a LabVIEW vi in a user-defined step within Signal Express, but thus far have been unsuccessful.  I get a "failure opening VI" error with subtext "The Specified VI could not be opened.  The path does not exist."  I have tried both reentrant standalone VI's and a reentrant vi embedded in an llb, and the path to both, of course, does exist.  All test vi's were modifications of the demonstration "limiter.vi" supplied with the NI Signal Express distribution.

A call to an NI salesperson indicated that I may have to have ApplicationBuilder to make this work.  If it is the case that I need to spend $1000-ish for NI Signal Express (which looks nice), and $1000-ish for labVIEW, and another $1000-ish for Application builder just so that I can get the functionality that I want in Signal Express, I'm inclined not to do it.  On the other hand, if there is another way. . .

Thanks for any insight.

Hi,
You do not need the application builder to create a VI and call it in Signal Express. What version of LabVIEW do you have? Using a VI with a user-defined step in Signal Express is currently supported in only LabVIEW 7.1, and that might be the problem. You can find a tutorial on creating a user VI here. Hope this helps. Thanks!

Hi,

Just an update. There's now a patch for Signal Express that allows you use VIs created in LabVIEW 8.0 as user-defined steps. You can find the patch here. Hope this helps. Thanks!
