why is my PXIe-1073 "Unidentified" in NI MAX?

Hi,

 

I have a PXIe-1073 chassis with one PXIe-6383 X Series Multifunction DAQ card installed.  It is connected to my WIN XP, 32 bit PC with a NI PCIe host card but it is reported as Unidentified in MAX.  Right-clicking and selecting 'Identify As' doesn't offer me PXIe-1073 as an option.

I start the system (with the PXIe chassis and PC off) with the power switch on the PXIe chassis, the PWR and Link lights are both on, I've used Windows Add & Remove Programs to repair my DAQmx installation and still nothing works.

 

What do I need to do to fix this?

I forgot to mention that I did install the PXI Platform Services.

I just installed the NI MXIe BIOS Compatibility software and tried another PXIe-1073 chassis with different cards - still doesn't work.

Hey Jim,

 

First thing I would do is shut everything down and unplug everything.  Then try reseating the card and plug up all the appropriate cables.  From there, I would make sure to get the PXI system up and running and then turn on the PC. 

 

Since you've already reinstalled PXI Platform Services and run the BIOS Compatibility software, the next thing would be to check the lights on the backplane of the chassis and see which are lit and are blinking, solid, or off.

 

What computer do you have set up to run this and how are they connected (what model is the connector)?

The same problem is happenning to me and still it is unidentified. I am using HP pavilion laptop.

Hi WASIF, 

 

Can you reply back with some additional details on your issue?  

 

1)  Are you using an ExpressCard MXI adaptor?  If so what model are you using? 

2)  What version of PXI Platform Services is running on your machine?  

3)  Is this problem you are having exactly the same as noted in forum post?

3a) If so, have you gone through the steps that the first poster went through as well as what Jake recommended?   

4)  What model of HP laptop are you using?

Here are the details. Refer

 

1) I am using NI Express Card-8360

2) PXI Platform Services 3.0.1

3) Yah same problem happening to me and i have tried all the mentioned steps. Additionally when I installed both the PXI  PS and MXI Bios compatible software, the PXI option under tree of "Devices and Interface" vanishes and MAX is giving an error while opening.

4) I am using HP Pavilion dv4 1227TX with windows 7.

Dear all,

I have been suffering for the same problem for some time.

I have a DELL PRECISION M4500 with W7 64-bit, NI PXI platform 3.0.1, NI-DAQmx 9.4 , MAX 5.

 

To connect the PXI chassis I use a MXI-slot with NI 8360 express card.

 MAX recognizes the PXI and PXIe cards contained in the chassis, but not the chassis itself

So I am not able to allocate trigger lines and thus to exploit NI TClk or other features

Hi Wasif, 

 

Thank you for the information.  Can you also confirm what version of the MXI Compatibility Software you are using?  The most recent version is 1.4 (recently released last week).   You can find the download link here : http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/2759/lang/en

 

In the mean time I want to find out which root bus your card is associated with. To see which root port an ExpressCard-8360 falls under in Windows 7, insert the card with no chassis attached and follow the directions below:
1. Right click on My Computer and select Manage. 
2. Select Device Manager. 
3. Click View on the menu, and select Devices By Connection. 
4. Expand the tree, searching for an Upstream and Downstream switch underneath a Root Port. This will be under one of the nodes labeled PCI Bus. Once found, double click on the Upstream switch. 
5. Select the Details tab, and select Hardware Ids from the drop down. To confirm that it's the ExpressCard-8360, the "VEN" should be 10B5, "DEV" is 8505, and "SUBSYS" is 83601093.
6. Now that we've confirmed the location of the ExpressCard, we need to find which root bus it's under. Double click on the Root Port device above the Upstream switch. 
7. On the General tab, the location of the root port will be listed. The bus number will reveal which root bus the ExpressCard belongs to. 

If you could also attach the text output of the Root Bus Detect tool. For your reference the utility and instructions can be found at the following KnowledgeBase.

moreover I have tried the MXI-express bios compatibility version1.4 but it generates problem with the graphic board
