Hi Experts,
is it possible to run the image from https://github.com/ni/nilrt on a standard motherboard with an x86 or x64 processor. And if yes, is the "National Instruments Embedded Open Image" for free? If it should work. Can I use all functions of Labview Real Time Toolkit, like the Desktop Version of Pharlab ETS? Thank you in advance.
Jim

This is a common question, and in fact is in the FAQ -- https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-35053 -- the short answer is that NI Linux RT is designed for our hardware, it might work on other hardware but you'd probably be better off using a version of Linux that is intended for your hardware. We do not currently offer LV RT itself for non-NI hardware with Linux as we did with the RT Desktop version of Phar Lap, please work with the NI contacts noted in the FAQ if you are interested in pursuing this.

I apologize for not directly answering this in my response, your question had several parts and I was trying to get to the heart of it but missed that key point! Regarding the nilrt repo that you specifically asked about, I see we've neglected to include an obvious licensing information file in that repo so I will bring that up here and get that clarified for you. The intent is that the repos on github.com/ni are free to use within the constraints of their respective licenses, for example https://github.com/ni/linux/blob/nilrt_pub/14.0/3.10/COPYING.

License information for nilrt is on GitHub now: https://github.com/ni/nilrt/blob/nilrt/14.0/COPYING.MIT (will bubble up to master branch shortly).
