Write user prompted text and numeric data to a file

I would like to generate a file that contains a PCB serial number entered by the user as well as data captured from a USB 6009 or 6210.  I have looked at the Write to Text File, Write to Measurement File, TDMS structures and Write to Spreadsheet and have not discovered how to get the two data types into one file.  The board serial number will be numeric in nature if that helps.  Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this?  I am using LabView 2009 SP1.

Hi Scott,

Is your serial number all numbers or numbers and letters?  You should make the data types match. Check out the Numeric>>Conversion palette and the String/Numeric conversion palette.

My serial number is all numeric and I found the Prompt User for Input VI and set it up as number and this allowed me the ability to attach it to the signals for a Write To Measurment File VI.  I now believe that I am all set.  Thanks for your assistance.
