Why should I use a circuit gain = to the full input voltage range of the DAQ?

It has been recommended to me that I create a gain in my circuits that is approximately equal to the full input voltage range of the DAQ board.  Why is that?  What does it accomplish?

The advantage I see is that, you will be using the range and resolution that your DAQ card offers entirely, by creating a gain in your circuits that makes your signal's amplitude equal to the full input voltage range of the DAQ board.

Conversely, you can also set the range of your DAQ card ( see your cards's specs for the ranges that it supports ) to suit the requirements of your circuit
