NI PCI-6221 card not working

I just installed a PCI-6221 card in a PII 300 pc with windows XP, but the card doesn't appear in my hardware list. The NI-DAQmx software version 8.1 is installed on the pc.

I tried plugging the card into different pci slots and removing the pci network card.
I also have a pci videocard, which I can't remove offcourser.

Is there anything else I can try to get this card working?

Hi Curly!
I had  a similar problem, once, with a different board, NI PCI65009.  This board had to be supplied with 3.3 V in the PCI slot.  The card wasn't seen by the system, because only 5 Volt alimentation  was provided in PCI bus by the motherboard.

I don't know if this is the matter, but just check in your board docs if 3.3 V is required...

Hi!
As I've found no hints on 3.3 V problem for M-series cards, I think that's not the problem.  Sorry for unuseful answer....

Thanks for the advice anyway.
I already found out about the 3.3V problem, and indeed it seems like this is not the case with this card.

I tried setting up the card in a newer P4 pc, and windows recognizes the new hardware immediately.
Seems that it does have something to do with the old pc's hardware.
I will have to look for another pc to use the DAQ card, but I would still like to know why the card doesn't work in the PII.

Hi All-

I think it's very likely that the power rail problem Graziano referred to is the issue in this case since I'm assuming you're using a rather old motherboard in your PII system.  More information about the actual problem and a way to check for the necessary 3.3V rail is available here.  The fact that the card works in a newer P4 machine is consistent with the behavior that is common on older machines where a good card simply won't power up if the necessary power rails aren't available.

Hopefully this helps-

Really?
If so, what are boards that support  only 3.3 Volt alim?

HI Graziano-

I didn't mean to say that they support ONLY 3.3V power rails.  I meant to point out that most M Series and some S Series require the 3.3V rail in addition to 5V and normal 12V rails.  The KB I linked previously has more information.

Thanks-
