DAQ device is recognised by windows but won't show up in the NI-Device Monitor, MAX or Labview

Hi,

I'm trying to connect a USB DAQ device (9162 Carrier with a 9211A).

I followed all the steps in the manuals (install DAQmx and Labview Express in the latest editions and plug in the USB cable). The device is recognised by windows, the drivers are automatically installed and the windows device manager lists it as working.

According to the cookbook the NI device monitor (which is running) is supposed to open and have me chose what to do with the device. It doesn't.

The device isn't listed in the devices category in the MAX Explorer or the device list in Labview Express either.

I tried this on two computers, one with Windows 7 and the newest software versions from the NI homepage, the other Windows XP SP3 with slightly lower software versions (from the installation DVDs).

The exact same problem is described in this post: http://forums.ni.com/t5/Multifunction-DAQ/9211A-device-not-detected/m-p/523180#M30399

It was written a few years ago with earlier versions of the software involved so I have the feeling that the problem is the user rather than the technology. I'm also pretty sure that the issue isn't specific to this particular device.

I'd very much appreciate a hint on how to get the whole software suit to find an obviously working device.

Thanks a lot.

Hello AvBlackout,

thank you for posting here.

There can be a reason why the device is not recognized by the MAX.

Please check the NI device loader on Windows 7, whether it is started or not.

You can find it by following these steps.

  1. Log in as an administrator or as a user with administrative privileges.
  2. Select Start»Control Panel»System and Security»Administrative      Tools»Services.
  3. Right-click on the NI Device Loader service (also seen as nidevldu), and select Properties from the drop-down menu.
  4. Make sure the service status is Started. If it is not, use the Start button to start the service.

If this doesn´t work, there is a link which can help you too.

Hope it helps, if not feel free to inform me.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi.

I am having the same problem with my USB device.

NI Device Loader is running.  Just restarted the service.  And my device is still not showing up in MAX.

The above link from MSteffan is bad.

Any ideas?

Hello,

Try this link:

This should solve your problem.

If not just let me know

Thanks.  I tried that method for cleaning a corrupt database, but it didn't work.  In fact, I tried everything ... even uninstalling all NI stuff and re-installing it again.

In the end, the solution was:

Uninstall all NI stuff

Reboot

Delete C:\Program files\National Instruments and C:\Program files(x86)\National Instruments and C:\Programdata\National Instruments

Reboot

Go in regedit and delete all Software\National Instruments stuff

Reboot

Now my device gets recognized!

I am using an Agilent GPIB/USB cable , it is recognized in Device Manager but I can not see it in my NI MAX.
NI Max is running so slowly and Visa Option window in Tools is not displayed to include the required .dll for Agilent boards. When I try to open this window I see the Error of problem in connecting to data base.
I have followed and done all the recommendations mentioned in the link above or in other forums so on my computer:

- Firewalls are disables completely,

- NI Configuration Manager in Service, is running,

- Keysight connection experts are disabled,

- disabled the network connection totally on my computer and tried to run it again

- Reset Configuration Data is done

- I reinstalled NI VISA totally and installed it again

but still my NI MAX opens so slowly and when trying to pen the VISA Options window, I see the error mentioning that it can't connect to database....

I do appreciate any other suggestions or idea to solve it.
